Setting parental controls

If you are an administrator of your computer, you can set parental controls to exclude words from Dictionary that may be considered inappropriate for some users. When Dictionary’s parental controls are set, most inappropriate terms won’t be displayed and users won’t be able to look up certain terms, such as slang or colorful expletives.

To set parental controls for Dictionary:

  1. Log in as an administrator.

  2. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Parental Controls.

  3. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then enter your administrator password.

  4. Select the user whose access you want to limit, and then click Content.

  5. Select the “Hide profanity in Dictionary” checkbox.

The publisher of each Dictionary source determines which terms in that source are considered inappropriate.
