Choosing options for your sources

You can choose options for some of the sources Dictionary uses, such as how it displays the pronunciation of words in dictionaries, or the version of Wikipedia it searches.

To choose options:

  1. Choose Dictionary > Preferences, and then select a source, such as a dictionary or Wikipedia.

  2. Select pronunciation or language options, if available.

The style US English (Diacritical) displays special marks such as accents, umlauts, and tildes to indicate how a word is pronounced. US English and British English IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) use special letters to indicate word sounds.
