lines on screen

Hello guys. After using the laptop for some days in clamshell using an external monitor (as fix for high wattage usage when using two monitors), My screen showed this strange lines and dots. I assume it was caused by heat transferred to the display. I realized this almost finishing my day work...

Vertical lines occasionally emerge on my unibody MacBook. I think it has to do with the cable. The lines go away when you orient the display at a certain angle. Here are pics:

Not sure if this is fixable. Came back from a weekend trip and found my MBA screen like this. Nothing happened to it to my knowledge. When I plug it into an HDMI I can see everything on my TV screen, so maybe just a connection issue? Anything helps, thanks!
