Folks - didn't see other threads on this but there are plenty on apple community. Basically my external HDD is connected using a Sabrent enclosure and I never an issue. But when doing Time machine, I've had 3 failed backups in a week with the same error - Time Machine failed because disk was...
My external hard drive is not constantly connected to my macbook. When doing a time machine backup, a snapshot is stored in the internal drive. Will these snapshots get deleted if the backup drive is removed after doing a manual backup? After you do the backup you remove the external hard drive...
I'm looking for recommendations for my drive set up on my cMP 4,1>5,1.
My current boot drive is 1TB NVMe (500GB used/500GB available), and my User accounts are on a FusionDrive HFS+ consisting of a 2TB NVMe and a 2TB HDD (3.5TB used/500GB available). Both NVMe drives are in an Ableconn...
Hi,
I have set up Time Machine with an external hard drive on my Mac, and I have decided to delete it soon afterwards.
I managed to delete all the snapshots using the Terminal, but still I see a Mackintosh HD snapshot.
Is this used to load the operating system, or is this still a leftover from...
Was wondering if someone could shed a little light on whats going on exactly with the "Keep Downloaded" feature.
1. Where are the files? They don't seem to be in any normal location in the file structure - only accessible from iCloud Drive, which makes it "feel" like it's not actually saved...
Hi folks.
It seems ATTO folks have developed a iSCSI Initiator for current macOS versions. This solves a lot of problems for me, but I am thinking about backups. The iSCSI volume will be backup-up on the server, but it would also be nice to have a separate copy of the data in a different format...
A statement is to encounter in the field that extended attributes (file system) exist to set Time Machine exclusion rules. I got that those attributes are to be set on backup source side to exclude file system items from being backed up by Time Machine. Myself was however not lucky to find a...
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me out!
I used an external passport device [4tb] to back up my data via time machine and have been periodically backing up since Jan 2023. When I was conducting some maintenance on my MBA 2017 [which has the adapter / 2tb NVME M2 drive installed], after I...
I just reinstalled macOS Ventura via OCLP due to a graphics card change. Everything went well until I restored my Time Machine backup from the same machine via an external hard drive. I got the message that the Time Machine restoration was completed and that the computer was going to restart...
Hi guys. I need a little help.
I have an iMac Pro with (2) Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSDs. I use the internal Apple 1TB SSD for the Mac OS and my apps, (1) Samsung 990 Pro 4TB external SSD for my client files, and (1) Samsung 990 Pro 4TB external SSD for my media. I probably use about half of the...
I've rarely had any problems with Time Machine on a 4th gen Time Capsule. However after upgrading from Ventura to Sonoma 14.5, TM just sits there saying "connecting to backup disk…" and never progresses.
When I enter TM it shows – not surprisingly – no backup history.
Looking at a Finder...
TrueNAS Scale Dragonfish 24.04.1 was released today. Release notes are available.
TrueNAS Scale is now my network Time Machine destination of choice. It works great!
So my 2018 Mac mini decided to act up this week. I thought I’d upgrade to Sonoma.
Big mistake. Unfortunately it got stuck in a loop trying to download then would crash.
I decided to reinstall from my Time Machine back up. That just lead to more issues. Ended up with Ventura (but not very...
Are you telling me APFS prevents deletion of folders from backups now?
My drive has plenty of space, but says there isn't enough. I don't need portions of an old backup, so I go to delete like any normal human being would and then..."cannot be modified"?! Surely there's a Terminal override?
I’m trying to use migration assistant to restore data from a network time machine share? but it just says “connecting” and doesn’t prompt me for the required credentials to connect to the share and decrypt the backup. I let it sit there for an hour with no change!
However, if I add the time...
IMac running Monterey. I can open Time Machine from two locations, one from the top menu icon to the TM itself and one via a desktop icon opening to a finder window that shows the files. I was trying to restore a damaged external drive. I have TM set to back up my three external drives (one had...
I noticed that Apple has not updated the exclusion list for a long time, which now appears outdated (based on the current structure of the operating system)
Try to compare the latest backups, you will notice that a myriad of short or very short-lived files are saved.
Perhaps only useful for...
Hi Mac friends.
I'd like to temporarily make an unused networked 2TB drive from someone else's PC (I have permission) as the Time Machine backup (I'm just backing up 1TB maximum but they say it' best to have double for allowance) while budget is allocated for softwares like SuperDuper! or...
Hello Mac friends,
Will using HFS+ damage SSDs (understanding that APFS was made of SSDs and HFS+ is for hardisks, for mechanical drives)? This is for Time Machine (speed is not a priority). If HFS+ won't damage the SSD, I'm switching from APFS to HFS+ hoping I won't get the 'not enough space'...
