Hello,
I've got a mid-'07 mini. I got it March of 2008, and did not get AppleCare. Just about 1/2 an hour ago the temperature hit 167 F with the fans at a leisurely 2200 RPM (fans at a minimum of 2000 RPM). I upped the fan speed using smcFanControl to 5500 RPM (the maximum) and the temperature fell to about 145 F, but it stayed there. At about 5000 RPM, the mini's fan starts making a buzzing noise.
The vent is unobstructed and the case has plenty of space around it.
Then I let the Mac mini take over and this is what happened:
5:35 PM: Fans at 1509 RPM with temp at 169 F.
5:36 PM: Fans @ 1502 RPM, temp 179 F!
5:37 PM: Fans @ 1550 RPM, temp 181 F!
5:38 PM: Fans @ 1650 RPM, temp 187 F!
5:58 PM: Fans @ 1514, temp 183 F.
What is going on? Is the temperature sensor bad? What can I do other than leave the fan on high all day (it gets annoying)? Do you think I could get a replacement out of this (not trying to con anybody here)?
