I'm in the process of searching through a number of threads and am not looking for a guide but just a simple answer. I used iNdependence and AnySIM to jailbreak and unlock my phone. It was 1.1.1 and I remember doing the whole baseband downgrade and then a special update back to 1.1.1

I'm just wondering how much updating I can do to it? 1.1.2? 1.1.3? 1.1.4? I haven't paid much attention to the hacking forums after I was able to do it the first time and have a lot of catching up to do in reading.

Am I required to virginze the iPhone if trying to upgrade from a unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone if i were to use independence?

I did a previous upgrade before using independence however it bricked my phone...

Is it possible for someone to have a simple step by step on how i should go about doing it?

Thanks in advance~!

upgrading to 1.1.4 will not brick ur phone however if you restore to 1.1.4 straight from 1.1.1 is better. but upgrading still works

Alright, this worked great. But is it now impossible to install the apptapp installer program on 1.1.4? I'm on at+t.....

you need to install it using independence under customize tab
and after ssh into iphone and run this command chmod ug+s /Applications/Installer.app/Installer

Thanks. I wish that made sense to me. From what I can tell, you can't download apptapp to your computer, you have to install it from your phone.
But you are saying you can get installer working with 1.1.4?

Look forget all these mindless posts about using iNdependance or other methods. JUst do a full Restore of your iPhone and then use ZiPhone to do all that for you.

ZiPhone will, activate, jailbreak and unlock in under 2 min. Forget following tough or lengthy methods.

So this method works no matter the baseband is 3.9 or 4.6?

Just virginse and do a full restore of the iPhone to say i wan 1.1.3 and let ZiPhone do the magic?

Just to get it clear...
don't wana spend hours again to unbrick it...

thanks~!

Exactly!

I lot of people complain that ZiPhone will downgrade their BL from 4.6 to 3.9 (they want to keep their 4.6 "just in case there is a hardware problem" because there is no way to go back to 4.6 from ZiPhone downgrades it.

If you have a week 45 or older iPhone you already have the 3.9BL and ZiPhone is the obviously choice to use to unlock your iPhone.

Proceed with caution if you have a week 45 or newer iPhone (look at the 4 and 5 digit on your serial number to determine the week your iPhone was produced). If you absolutely want to keep your 4.6BL, than do not use ZiPhone 2.5 c.

Personally I've unlocked both older and newer iPhones with ZiPhone 2.5 and have not had any issues. FYI the total amount of times takes (about 8-10 minutes). This includes taking the phone into DFU mode, restore, and than using ZiPhone.

The ZiPhone process itself only takes 2-3 minutes. It's very simple. People only have problems because they do not read instructions very carefully. It's on the ZiPhone application program itself.
