I bought an iPhone in the UK so it has FW 1.1.2.

It has not been activated via iTunes/O2.

I am trying to activate and Jailbreak the thing but keep coming across a number of problems. I have tried Conceited Software approach but I just cannot seems to kick the phone out of DFU mode once I have downgraded to 1.1.1. I double click the JAR file and it just says Rebooting Sending Commands and nothing actually happens. I tried using the Windows.bat file too (under Windows of course) and it just opens and closes in a millisecond.

Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong?

run the newest version of independence for mac. try killing the itunes and ituneshelper processes as well (on os x)

it may need to be disconnected and reconnected the iphone. took me a couple go's to kick it ouf of dfu mode.

also give it 20-30 seconds before you d/c your iphone to try again.

also you don't use the jar file until you have updated to 1.1.2 again form 1.1.1

It works......kinda.

DenniZ, thanks for your reply. Turns out the problem was actually due to me using iTunes 7.5 instead of 7.4.2, d'oh!

So I used 7.4.2 and it worked a treat.

I have now managed to configure the phone to be able to navigate to http://jailbreakme.com but everytime I click Install AppSnap, it just exits Safari and brings me straight back to the iPhone Activation screen (my iPhone has not yet been activated) and nothing happens. I have tried doing this about 5 times but nothing.

I'm so close, I can taste the success.

thats whats supposed to happen, then you wait for about 2 mins topps and your phone will restart i think with a icon called installer will appear as well once it reboots. then you need to install octoprep thats it, then restart then UPDATE your iphone to 1.1.2

If windows.bat opens and closes in a millisecond it isn't running. I had this exact same problem. You need to download and install the java runtime environment for windows.bat to work. In fact, if you run windows.bat from a command shell it will tell you "java is not a recognized command."

Bootloader

Apple put in a new bootloader in all ipods pre-installed with 1.1.2 that prevents any type of unlocking, I'm not sure about jailbreaking but give it some time and I'm sure there will be TONS of postings when they will figure it out...
