Hi everyone, since upgrading to 1.1.3 my mail application hasn't been working properly.

No preview text is displayed any more (though space is left for it), and often my emails do not load when I click on them -- I get a blank email and that message "This message is only partially downloaded" even for really small emails that are only a few K. When I click to download the rest, it doesn't work.

Any ideas what's causing this? It happens when I'm on both WiFi and EDGE. I went ahead and deleted and re-entered in my email settings (I've been using Gmail IMAP both before and since the 1.1.3 update), but that didn't help. Do you think the problem is on Apple's end or on Google's?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem and have been trying to fix it as well.

No luck so far...

Same Thing

Yeah - I've had the same thing. I tried rebooting. Sometimes that works. It started happening to me right after the 1.1.3 upgrade. :-(

Only happens to me sometimes though.

GMail only?

Mine happened only in Gmail, but my other mail accounts would give an "smtp connection failure" the same time GMail would quit displaying the full message.

Both problems disappear / reappear at the same time.

I had the same problem, what I did was delet all the mail accounts and reinstall them.. Gmail does IMAP now so that might be the problem.

But even with IMAP it appears on 1.1.3 that they still want to download all e-mails. This was the issue when POP was being used for gmail on the iPhone but fixed by using IMAP. Now even with IMAP settings plugged in all e-mails still want to download. Since there is no "stop" button there it requires all e-mails to be downloaded on the iPhone and then deleted one painful e-mail at a time.

yes that is true, but If I had just got a new iphone and setup my email accounts.. I would want all my email that is in Gmail accounts.. If I am not mistaking it ask you in the pop settings if to download mail from certin date. Example if I where to do it today all my mail from Jan 19th will be downloaded. All so an option for Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

I'm having the same issue with a GMail account.

I'm also having the mail app icon on the home screen display the red, unread emails number even when messages are appearing as read in my inbox.

Others?

Like averyash, I'm also having the problem with the red tag not correctly indicating how much unread mail I have.

I've asked some friends about their experiences, and these glitches only seem to be affecting Gmail users.

Has anyone seen an official acknowledgment of these errors anywhere?

With the update, I'm seldom getting any audio or vibration mail notifications. Looks like the update fixed some problems while at the same time creating new ones!

My Fix for all issues stated above:

With the 1.1.3 update, it was stated that you could build your Gmail account using the Gmail shortcut under "Add Account" It was stated that it was IMAP based. This is what I did and I started having the same problems as stated above.

My fix was to Delete the account and build a new Gmail Account using Other and following the instructions to the letter on the Gmail website.

https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702

My email now performs as designed using my IMAP preferences. For those that perfer POP3 (although I fail to see why) You can get the same instructions from Gmail.

I hope this helps some if not all of you with this problem

Good Luck!

Thanks, SFC Archer. I tried your suggestion but didn't have any luck. My problems persist. Was anyone else successful using this technique?
