Trying to SSH onto my iPhone and login as root using alpine (also tried dottie) as the password and I keep getting rejected. It is running 1.1.3 and I used ZiPhone to jailbreak/activate the phone... Any ideas at all on what I am doing wrong, or things I need to check (specific software etc that needs to be installed?).. Any help appreciated..

Not sure if that is supposed to help me or not.. Anyway, I just jailbroke my iPod Touch and the root password 'alpine' works on that without an issue so I am at a loss as to why I cannot connect to my iPhone with the same password..

Surely someone out there must have come across this problem before and fixed it!

hmmm yeah i think i can solve your problem in two steps:

1) install SSH
2) turn SSH on

Yeah, because I hadn't thought that that'd be the issue and ensured it wasn't.

Ended up doing a restore on the phone and redo doing the jailbreak/activate etc and it now seems to be fixed.
