Alright, i know im going to get a lot of replies telling me to search and what not and im really sorry but im not tech-savy at all. I just simply wanted to know if i were to buy a iphone at an apple store today with 1.1.4 on it, would i be able to unlock it and use it on Rogers here in Canada, without spending anymore money on simcard things and what not? If so how. I have no idea what to search and stuff since i cant find the names of programs.
Thanks for any replies and sorry if this thread pisses you off.

yea, theres was to now. You can either downgrade the bootloader and run anysim (ew) or an IPSF style unlock, which is best imo as its upgrade-resistant, in other words you can update and will stay unlocked. Else you can have it unlocked by downgrading the modem firmware to the 1.1.2 which can be unlocked on newer bootloader phones, though, youll be on 1.1.4 wiht 1.1.2 modem firmware and certian features wont work... There are plenty of tools out now to unlock and jailbreak a phone, however, ziPhone is the most comment (.. even if he stole all the tools in it, it's just a wrapper) and easy to use.

also, rogers is suppsoed to be coming out with new WM data flex plans next week which will help out, a ton for us stuck on rogers :/

I am very curious though, if you are not tech-savy enough to do a search, are you sure you should jailbreak / unlock your iPhone? No offense intended.:)

thanks for the replies without making it seem like a hassle guys. i know people hate seeing the same threads over and over so i appreciate it. as for the guy above me, i got the part that i could unlock the phone, but have no clue what you said. can you direct me to some other threads or elaborate and explain what you just said lol?

that part more specifically lol.

ziphone can do it all. I have AT&T so I cant comment on the carrier and unlocking. Only that Jailbreaking works perfectly for me on ziphone.

There are a tun of good tutorials out there. Search here, modmyifone, etc.

yea sorry, i was really tired last night :p

There's 2 ways to unlock an i phone, (well 3 i guess). 1 for new 1.1.2 + OTB phones running 4.6 bootloader, and 2 for older phones on 3.9 bootloader.

for 4.6 you can jailbreak it and using programs liek ziPhone, use its unlock feture(cough gunlock stolen from geo cough). It will dowgrade your modem firmware, the radio stuff, to the version from 1.1.2 firmware which was unlockable. Thereby leaving your 1.1.4 firmware phone with the modem firmware form 1.1.2, and all other 1.1.4 things. Unfortunatly, this means google maps locate me function will not work (there's workarounds).

The other methods are for a 3.9 bootloader phone, older ones. You can downgrade your bootloader from a new phone to 3.9, however you CAN NOT upgrade it back to 4.6 at this time. Once on 3.9 you can run any sim which will unlock your phone leaving modem firmware at the proper version (in this case 1.1.4 - i dont know the real modem # btw sorry if its confusing). This method works, however, upon most firmware upgrades there is a modem upgrade also which will then relock your phone if you update it. The reaon 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 was still unlockable so easily was because it wasnt changed really, its 1.1.3 with bug fixes. The other methos is an IPSF style which is a bit more complicated adn risky, however, it has withstood all updates so far, keeping your phone unlocked upon upgrading through itunes.

hope this helps a bit!
