I have purchased a MM1,1 to use as Crashplan destination.
Turns out CP requires now Lion (cp site requirements are not up to date).

I have ordered C2D processor and can install 10.7.5 (don't have 10.7.4) on another machine, then can clone or TDM...

Need to know the exact steps how to flash the firmware. Is it a custom firmware or 2,1 from Appl?

Since its an old subject everywhere I read flash was easy etc but no instructions.

Don't want to brick it or I'd be out $90 total.
I got the MM for $75 and thought I could run 10.6.8 SL for Crashplan.

I posted some pretty detailed instructions in this thread back in early 2012 when I did my two 1,1's to 2,1's

Thank you for the info.

Here is some info from me...

Used iFixit guide to take the unit apart.
When replacing / upgrading the CPU I have destroyed the original standoffs, I have replaced them with nylon screws and bolts #4 40 3/4 inch I believe they are, reused the springs.

Cleaned up the heat sink and applied new thermal paste.
When installing, I used two nuts and bolts cross to hold the unit in place while I installed the first two springs.
Once all were with springs I tightened each side.

Used compressed air to clean the insides of the unit.

Copied the required files to the folder required. Modified rights using the GUI.

When applying the firmware update I held the button for too short of a time. The sleep light stopped blinking and I let go first time and the flash did not happen. I powered down the unit and ran the terminal command to initiate the flash.
At next power up I held the power button for longer until I saw the progress bar move.

I was able to see some of the text and navigated to shut down the unit. Then option command P R.

I used another machine and connected USB drive to install Lion on. Two more restarts (to download updates) and I edited the Plist file (I renamed the file).
Then I connected the 1,1 (2,1) via firewire and used CCC to clone the drive.

I also made another volume on the drive and will install SL on it in case something happens to the plist file.
