I'm going to get a 11" mba with 4GB ram and 128gb flash storage. I'm on the fence on whether I should pay the extra $100 to go to a 1.6 core 2 duo. Will I even see any performance benefits with a 1.6?

Personally, I don;lt think you'll see much in the way of benefit. What will struggle on a 1.4 is likely to struggle on a 1.6. The SSD is the vital part of the MBA, along with the ram. I got the 11.6 with 4gb, and 128 SSD... It;s been fine thus far. Played movies, transcoded some stuff using ffmpegx, and has been great battery wise. If you can afford it, or really want it, get the 1.6, but you'd be better off buying a nice case, or something like that.
