Is there really a big difference from the 1.83 and the 2 GHz MBPs? Also, does the 2 GHz model whine/ heat up more?

You could just get merely 1.83Ghz or 2 Ghz, but 2.17Ghz is obviously much better.

I'd OC it to about 2.6Ghz also, even 2.17Ghz is a drag.

If you have the cheddar, the 2.0 sounds like more fun to me...if not for the extra megahertz, but for the single 1GB SODIMM and double the video memory (which i wish was an option on 1.83:( ). not sure if 160mhz extra is worth the $300 to 2.16GHz...but thats just me...spend it to maz out the RAM and a slick case i'd say:p

holy cannoli my man, OCing a voiding the warranty of a $150 PC processor is mighty different than OCing and voiding the warranty of a $2500+ device. in addition to the fact that OCing it might make the laptop glow red:eek:

But overclocking the graphics card is a different matter. It's below what the card is rated for to begin with, and it's only software too.

yes there is a big difference, remember, it is 2x2GHZ so the difference is substantial...but also keep in mind that the limiting factor may not be the CPU (depends on what you are doing)

As jimsowden pointed out, overclocking the graphics card is simple and easy (I assume you're talking about usine ATIcceleratorII, right?). Just keep upping until you find you're getting artefacts, then back off a couple steps and test, test, test until you find a stable point. But keep in mind, Apple laptops are pretty set for heat, so it's going to make your card run hotter and can, in extreme cases, melt it, which is bad on a mbp as (I assume) it is onboard...
