Ok, first post here. Ive been lurking the forums for a while now and now I have a dilemma.

My girlfriend has a 1.83 MB which is absolutely great for our tasks (word processing, surf web and music, browsing and editting pictures). Now I have to get my own computer. I saw that MacConnection has the 1.83 MBP for $1500 after rebates. Im guessing the 1.83MBPs were the first MBPs? I really want the MBP ever since, I love the backlit keyboard feature and the better screen.

Here's the problem, is it worth 500 more than the regular MB ($1000 from amazon)? If I were to buy an MB, it will be the 1.83ghz one because thats all I need. I know that there's no real performance difference from the MBP and MB, being that they're both 1.83...Size isnt a factor since I only travel once a year, so it'll mainly be on my desk.

Thanks for reading!

Wow, $1499 for a MBP! That's gotta mean updates are around the corner.

Back on topic: for the taks you listed, you absolutely do not need a MBP. You might be slightly more productive with the bigger screen but the difference isn't that great anymore. And since you'll have no use for the better graphics, you're discounting the one big advantage of the MBPs, in my opinion.

Without much performance differences (I may be wrong though) it seems like you should just go for the MB. $500 for a backlit keyboard just seems kinda excessive but maybe that's just me.

And if you're not going to be traveling with it often, you can make up for that productivity with an LCD monitor. You can get a 17" for much less than $500 (you can get a 20" for less than $500), and then you would more than make up for the difference. Just a thought.

Cant go wrong with a MB 1.83, for the price. Can you use the $500 for something else. Will you be doing the same tasks like your gf?

I notice people started to sell MBP on craiglist for $1300, so that mightbe something to think about.
