the screen flashes dark and bright frequently.

Its almost like u pressing the F1/F2 button repeatedly, except i didn't touch them, and the screen brightness level bar shows no change of screen brightness.

so far, as I observed, it happens at the beginning couple of minutes after entering the desktop.

anybody has same issue? anybody has any idea about whats wrong? Hopefully this MB won't give me a LCD fail in less than a year (I purchased this thing last July)

Seems like you have the same problem as me with a MacBook bought at the same time too, although it's a 2Ghz one.

It does it usually at startup/wake from sleep although it's not exactly a frequent occurence, and I haven't a clue what causes it either  . Although it isn't giving me a big enough problem to go and complain about it yet - no doubt that'll happen about a week after the warrenty ends :p

mines a 2.0 GHZ one too and it does the same thing.....I am waiting for my mother to get her imac and then Im gonna transfer all my data and call apple....I also have the battery problem

Got the same problem with my 1.8 GhZ Macbook. Has been happening already since december (got the macbook in July 2006).

The macbook is allready in service at a apple preminum reseller (not Apple, as their are no Apple shops in austria).

Lets see if they'll manage to fix it. I'll know more in the next week.

oh, ok, thanks for the info, I guess i will bring it to applestore b4 warranty ends, i do have another problem, the earphone jack is kinda weird, more than half time, the machine can't detect the removal of earphone, guess i will solve two problems at once then.... :D

Had this on mine and the apple store took it in and orderd part.

This was one of many repairs (not related to screen) though so apple replaced the entire laptop but they did accept there was a issue.

how many repairs did you allready have?

I allready had the random shutdown issue..
And now I gave my macbook to the service for this screen flickering & discoloring & a funny squeging noise the fans make when they are at high speed..

Thats 4 different problems in under a year..

I have the same problem. It usually isn't that bad, but at times it can be quite distracting. I am going to bring it in to an apple store but I have to wait until I am done with this semester to do that. Good thing my warranty isn't up until July.

Thank God

This is why I love coming to these Forums. You can pretty much bet on the fact that someone else has the same problem you do.

My Black MacBook is exactly three months old today. And guess what, FLICKER!

Anyway, the reason I bought this macbook was to exist in clamshell mode basically as a desktop replacement. So It doesn't bother me that much. Only when I take it around and use it on my lap does it really piss me off.

My issue, do I take it in? I figure once It starts to bother me enough I will. But right now, since It's running in clamshell mode and I don't see the flicker, I wont.

But really, WTF is the reason for this? Is it defective, or just the way they are?

Just a thought: Surely this many MacBooks can't be defective can they? Seems this is just the way they were built...?

Its really difficult for me to guess, but I can think of no reason for this to be software-related. My bet is on hardware defect, but can't be sure. I ve been through RSS previously, and had other problems too, make me wonder if I should buy extended warranty for this thing.

I admit this macbook is very nice, but if it were to break right after 1 year warranty, I can be sure I won't touch another apple product in near future. Not when they can't have a decent QC.

So any update of this issue?

I still haven't taken mine into the store yet. I use the laptop 90% of the time in clamshell on my desk - it's the days that I don't that I wish I had taken it in haha.

Anyone else have any related feedback?
