Ok i bought a core duo 1.8ghz last week, since im new to mac i wasnt aware that they were releasing the new one.

So here's my dilema, since the price of the old macbook dropped:

1 - keep the actual 1.8 core duo and have a 100$ refund
2 - exchange for the white 2.0ghz core duo for the same price
3 - exchange for a 1.8ghz C2D for the same price
4 - exchange for the Black 2.0ghz core duo for 50$ more

so what will be the best, my principal question is which will perform better the 1.8 C2D or the 2.0 CD ??? and also considering that both 1.8 wont have a dvd burner

plz help me i have to settle it as soon as possible

Does the one you have now work well? Then keep it. You never know what might be wrong with a new one.

Unless you think you need the dvd burner, in which case I'd suggest the C2D 2GHz. Depending on the available funds of course.

i got it since less thant a week and since upgrading to a 2.0g CD or a 1.8g C2D will be free since they retails both the same price that what i paid last week for mine... the c2d 2.0ghz is out of reach....

If you opened the computer Apple will try to hit you with the 10% restocking fee if you exchange it. You might be able to talk Apple out of it if you are very polite and friendly when talking to them. There is really not a big difference between the late model CD MacBooks and the new C2D MacBooks. The 1.8GHz models really didn't change that much as they still come with 512 RAM.

If you want to upgrade to a DVD Burner as mentioned above, then you should consider trying to get a 2.0 C2D MacBook. The 2.0 model offers some notable upgrades from the 1.8 for only $200 more. You get a faster Intel chip with more L2 cache, 512MB more Ram an 80GB HDD, and a 6x Dual Layer DVDRW. Just take a look at your needs and if you think you could use some of those options then give Apple a call or stop in a store and see what they will do for you. Best of luck!

Oh, I have a C2D MacBook and I love it. Silent and cool.. and when the fans come on they stay on until it cools down instead of making the mooing sound.

2 - exchange for the white 2.0ghz core duo for the same price

If you can do that, why not?
You will get a speed bump (even it isn't that much), a superdrive.
It even better than a 1.83 core2 duo in my opinion.

C2D is 64 bit isn't it? If so I would upgrade for that, but I guess it shouldn't make THAT much of a difference. But still, I think its worth upgrading.

If anything I'd pay the $50 to upgrade to the black one. If you're buying a consumer notebook such as the MacBook, you aren't really going to notice the C2D enhanced speed anyway (such as in Final Cut, Compressor, Photoshop). 64-bit is useless on a MacBook....there's nothing for it to take advantage of.

without a doubt get the C2D, the core 2 chip is completely different(and far superior) to the regular core duo. you will thank yourself when leopard is released

i actually bought it from were i work, future shop (best buy canada) so i its fully exchangeable, i will just bring back the box on monday and take a new one

unfortunately, they're not almost no different. when I played core 2 duo macbook yesterday at apple store. I didn't feel it was faster. almost no identical. even Apple advertises up to 39% faster. but in real world, it's only 10%. it's not real 64 bit processor. it's in between corecuo and next generation santa rosa platform. but new product is always feeling good, and smell good. go with new core 2 duo. it will maybe get some help when leopard will come out :)
