I know there was a news report on the front page a while ago about Apple looking into merging account id's into one...

This should have been done before iClouds release IMO... to make it much simpler and easier to understand for newcomers etc.

I current use MobileMe... and then I also have a gmail account which I use for my iTunes purchases... so in other words I have 2 apple ID's which is stupid.

However I like my MobileMe for mail because the address for my email is short and simple to remember etc whereas the gmail one is longer...

So I have decided to use my MobileMe for iCloud but now I will lose out on syncs... I know I know my choice.... but really they should let us merge them into one.

One other thing ... can anyone tell me how do you create a new @me address? My Girlfriend wants a @me address and bought a macbook air a few weeks ago with Lion. Am I write in saying she can make a free @me address?

Also am I able to create myself a new one? I have Lion

System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > Click the "+" button on the bottom left corner > Click iCloud > Create New Apple ID > Follow Directions and notice that on the first page there is an option to Get a free @me.com email address.

Thanks buddy, so even though I already have a MobileMe address (which is now linked to iCloud) I am eligible to make a new @me address if I ever wanted to in the future? for a new email address say for business and one that I use now for private use?
