1 gig OR 2 gig

1 gig of memory is like 60-80 bucks for 2x 512 sticks...

But will 2gigs of memory improve gaming and working with iLife better?

I mean a good difference, because 2 gigs will cost me $135 dollars for 2x 1gb

If anybody has a cheaper price for 2 gigs let me know

Theres no way im buying a 7200 rpm harddrive, because IM CHEAP.

Im buying a core duo macbook for 900dollars because its cheaper than core 2 duo

I have 1GB of Ram on two machines, and 2GB of Ram on one. I must say, I do notice a difference in responsiveness only when I do a lot of things...

I keep Safari open, a poker app, mail, itunes, adium, sometimes acquisition. if you're planning on having a bunch of apps open at once, it's a good idea to get 2gb.

I just slapped 2gig of G.Skill ram in my macbook and I noticed it being very snappy. I mainly did the upgrade cause of parallels but my apps do open faster.

My friend and I have the new C2D Pros, only he has the 2.33/2GB, while I have the 2.16/1GB. I honestly didn't notice that much difference using his, dude. I'm all about affordability like you are man, and I'm totally happy with 1GB.

I'm always running at least safari, ichat, itunes, and mail. For most people, I think 2GB is a bit overkill. I guess yea, your basic apps would open in one or two less bounces on identical computers, but if we're talking about saving money, I think you should go with 1GB. I'd recommend getting a single Gig stick instead of 2 512's, though. As ram prices drop, you can throw in another Gig later on if you want.

I have a Mbpr 2.16 ghz when I first got it i had the 1gig of ram and it was snapy and worked great but then i installed offfice and parralles and 1 gig was not enough page outs like crazy beach balls , I could not use word and parralles at the same time or photshop for that matter. so i put another gig in now i have 2gig and it files wilth all aps open work photoshop parralles all working at the sametime no beach balls playing itunes surfing ichat i full recomend 2 gigs well wort the money ..

1GB will be okay, but not great. If you are running Parallels (I know, you didn't mention that you are) then 2 for sure.

With the prices you got, it's probably only a $55 or so difference in price for 1 more GB of RAM. I think that it's worth it.

I added a 1 gig stick and my MB ran great for many months on 1.25 gigs (1 gig + 256 MB) Ideally the RAM should be in matched pairs, but you only lose a very negligible amount of performance by not running in pairs. Your MB will not suffer any damage by running unmatched RAM.

So, IMO you're much better off buying a 1 gig stick now (and running an unmatched pair) and then buying another 1 gig later when you can afford it. Otherwise, if you buy 2x512 you'll be throwing out one or two 512 sticks if you upgrade later.

I ordered my PowerBook with the RAM upgraded to a single 1GB chip. It is really snappy and works great... but I'm the kinda idiot where I always want bigger and better, so I maxed it out to 2GB. To be honest I don't notice the difference.

I don't game (have a wii and xbox for that). I do some light video editing with iMovie HD and take high-resolution shots with my D50 that I edit in Aperture.

The problem is, if you buy 2x 512MB stick, and then want to upgrade to 2GB later it starts becoming uneconomical.

So either max it out now or get the single 1GB stick and save up for another one later. Once thing I will add is that rosetta apps seem to love memory.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that a typical application you will use in the future will have bigger memory requirements than a typical application you are running now.
