1 second delay on two finger tap

Does anyone else have an extremely frustrating one second delay to open up the right click context menu when you try and two-finger tap (2015 rMBP) ? The funny thing is, two finger clicking pops the menu up instantly, but two finger taps causes a delay.

It's become so annoying that I've started clicking instead of tapping, which isn't ideal. Anyone else encounter this issue and any suggestions for a reason/fix?

Haha, you are right! I have been using two finger tap for several years now but it never occurred to me that there was a delay My guess would be that it is necessary to distinguish a tap from any other two-finger gesture (e.g. scroll gesture, which also starts with a two-finger tap). If my assumption is correct, there is no fix. That said, you are the first person I can recall complaining about this, so I don't really see this as an issue.

He is not the first person for sure. This has been in OS X since long time and I reported it as a bug to Apple a few times. It never got fixed. Actually, this lag issue could be encountered in two cases:
1. When you enable dragging by double tap, you get a single tap lag. Not acceptable - I always disable the double tap dragging though I'd love to have it. Windows doesn't have such issue, it works fine there, therefore for me it is a poor software. It's an issue in OS X for years now.
2. When you enable "smart zoom" (quite new feature) with double tap with double fingers, you get the same lag for two fingers actions - like right click. Fortunatelly, I do not need this feature, so I disable "smart zoom" and don't get frustraded with tap lags. Anyway, it is not acceptable and I repeat - Windows machines don't have such problems.

Thanks so much for the reply, I've just disabled smart zoom and the two finger tap lag has decreased significantly! It's much much better now. Obviously you shouldn't have to do that, but do you not think it's acceptable now at least?

Thanks for reminding me about the "smart zoom". I had forgotten about that gesture. Lucky for me it, along with two finger context menu, is very fast.

Disable smart zoom, it will remove the delay, first thing I do to every mac I get.

Ah, there we have it! When smart zoom is on, you need a brief pause to find out whether the user wants to click or to zoom. I don't think there is a way around this, unfortunately.

Because I use two finger "smart zoom" frequently, I hadn't forgotten, but I must say I do wonder why some people have lag, and some like myself do not. Perhaps it's just another irregularity that we seem to see with Apple software in recent times.

I am quite sure you have that delay as well, but it is so minuscule that most people probably won't notice it. Try switching smart zoom on and off and try the two-finger tap, there is a difference.

Yes, there is a difference. I also discovered that I do not like smart zoom after all. I prefer to pinch zoom, or cmd-±, since I have more control on the resulting size.

In Mavericks, as I recall, they moved it from trackpad settings to Accessibility -> Mouse and trackpad -> Trackpad settings -> Enable dragging.
