1 Year Later (Almost), MacBook Stains

I purchased a MacBook last May, and despite all the complaints flying around at that time, I was happy with my purchase. I don't have any whining or mooing, and I didn't have any problems with the stains on the palm rest.

That is, I didn't have any problems with the stains up until a month or two ago, and now it's really bugging me.

This is covered by Apple within 1 year after purchase, correct? If I take it in to an Apple Store, how long will it take them to return it to me? The macbook is, for all intensive purposes, my only computer, and it also serves as my dvd player and tv tuner, so I'd like to minimize my time spent without it.

It may be a matter of it showing its age-ring Apple for the definitive word though-they should replace it (the top cover).

if you just call applecare and arrange a repair, it will take, probably, less than 5 days (shipping and repairing) if you are inside US.

Are these yellow colored stains, or the darkening that iBook owners have seen perennially? The latter cleans very nicely with a Mister Clean Magic Eraser and is just dirt...not staining. I'm just asking since it didn't do this for a whole year. The ones that were problematic were initially poorly fabricated plastic; if you had one, you should've seen this effect a long time ago, unless you've been wearing gloves or had some recent major change in the oils your skin outputs...

Maybe he/she has another computer for non-intensive purposes, but the non-intensive purposes produce less skin oil and do not cause staining?

The stains are pretty normal after this amount of time for any laptop, Apple or not. It's probably because your hands are/have been dirty and you rest them on that area whilst typing. After a certain amount of time it starts to discolour. I think gamers call this WASD marks. (Or something, because of FPS)

Do iBooks stain? It seems like Macbooks have more of a problem (at least reported, I don't own a Macbook) then iBooks, and i've read it's a plastic problem.

Often, it's not dirt at all, but the contents of sweat and natural skin oils. Based on what we eat, genetic make-up, etc., some people have sweat/oils that are naturally fairly highly acidic/alkaline, and this can cause marking/damage to the surface.

it makes sense. more intensive purposes are more stressful, leading to sweatier palms. i wish i had another computer for the non-intensive purposes.

My friends Macbook has turned very yellow/brown around the palm rest and trackpad area after only a year. Perhaps to be expected. How do the metallics MBP's hold up? Surely they wont be staining in the same way?

thanks, for the opinions and the grammar lesson. usually, i'm pretty good with that stuff...

anyway, this isn't just dirt. i've tried the "magic eraser" method and it doesn't help at all. in fact, it makes the non-stained areas cleaner, thereby making the stains appear more prominent.
