I had to go into system preferences and internet accounts and click on each gmail account I had. Gmail wanted the main password and not an app password. It also gave me an accept screen.

After that it opened.

Same here, but I received a "Google failed to authenticate" message every time that I entered my password.

On top of that, I can see the email messages that I have received via Gmail and Yahoo, but it will not open the contents of the email.
 
Thanks I too had this problem after the update. Had to go accept Apple wanting access to my Google account stuff. After that I had to put the password in and it started working again. Had me worried for a bit.
