Does anyone know why all the pictures are now not in order of date added or date taken when viewing Albums > All Photos?

Is there a way I can get them back to being in order by date?

All my photos are now in just a random order after the update today.

Thanks.

yeah, odd order. so, i made a smart album (starting with the year my photos started, and excluded (with a keyword), all my work-related photos). then i contol-clicked on the album, and unchecked 'sort by name'...and this works...

How do I get all my photos into the smart album? I created a smart album entered the earliest date of my first photo and then went to my main album selected all copied went to the new smart album pasted and nothing happened.

I might be a noob to this so please bear with me. Thanks!

Truthfully, this Photos app really sucks, doesn't it... It really is just a small step above browsing your photos in the Finder or on an iphone. Then again, I guess that is the point of it.

one thing that's been discussed...the new app can handle a much-larger library than iphoto ever could...

as i explore the app, am getting into it. and trying syncing thru icloud, works well.

meanwhile, my smart folder has this rule: Date is after 1/1/2004 (when my library starts). then again, just control-click on the album and uncheck "sort by name"

Exactly my feeling so far. It isn’t nearly as powerful as Finder or even easy to use as iPhoto currently is. I miss many right-click menus and drag and drop between apps doesn’t seem to work either. I’ll wait for later releases, because at this point it’s not a very nice way to organise my photos.

Is this app turning out to be a washout?

I actually like iPhoto, simple and offers lots of control. Built up a lovely collection, all dated, labelled and mapped, kind of hoping of that info isn't all going to get thrown out when 'Photos' goes public. :/

I think so far it’s only the sorting that doesn’t make sense yet. The metadata, such as dates, keywords, descriptions, pictures and geolocation are still there.

/Edit: I was mistaken. Photos has definitely scrambled the dates on some of my pictures.

That's good, is the big map and pins view still there?

There is no separate map view as such anymore, it seems that you can only see the map to view certain ‘moments’ (when you click on the header in moments view).

Photo app is not off to a good start

I am very disappointed in the new Photo app.
1. Doesn't show any progress on uploading to cloud and no way to pause it.
2. Lost all of my shared albums
3. Is not allowing me to create new shared albums
4. Adding Faces is very tedious. Not way to indicate faces should be ignored, no way to select several faces at a time.
5. When using the add faces under the info, it only works when the photo is enlarged. Most of the time the circle is not around the face. In crowded shots its hard to tell who is supposed to be until you move the circle.
5. Lost most of my location data.
6. Most of the pictures did not sync to the cloud, the events show on my iPhone, but most are empty. This may be like "Match" in iTunes. That took two weeks to complete, but I did this on my laptop and it has a relatively small number of pics.
6. Every time you open Photo is needs to refresh the the "Shared" library. This can take a couple of minutes.
7. No way to only put part of the photos in the cloud. Since Apple is no cheap with the free storage and a little pricey with additional, I am not going to be putting all my pics (over 50 gb) in the cloud.

I know this is a beta, but I am not going to switching to photos on my main machine until its a lot further along. Will stay with iPhoto or switch to Elements.

UPDATE-About three hours after I starting running Photo I am now starting to slowly appear on my iPhone and in the web. Out of about 1,000 pics, after 3 hours about 25 are showing. Not sure how they are getting to my phone before they are on the web and why they are not the same ones, but they are SLOWLY appearing.

I find the new Photos app to be very slow. Each time I start it, I am waiting several minutes. Its very unresponsive when deleting photos - quite a lag and the photos are all on the mac. Also, my mouse is starting to have a problem with horizontal movement on my black mouse pad in 10.10.3 Public beta. Place it on the wooden desk surface, and it works fine.

How many users are experiencing this problem?

I have tried everything to get the "All Photos" album in chronological order by date.

Any suggestions other than creating a new album?

remember, it's a beta, you see an issue, report it via help>feedback

Yes, viewing albums>all photos seems to display pictures in the order they were added to the library, not by the date taken. Going to the Photos tab will display everything chronologically, though.

^^^ True it is a beta.....i hope they address that issue as well as when looking at pictures in moments to only have to hover over the picture for them to be magnified as opposed to click and drag.

Some pictures have a really weird location added to them, it's a place a few hours from here, but where I've never been and where these pictures for certain haven't been taken. And it's only a few pictures here and there that have this location. MediaInfo Mac says there's no location data embedded in them, yet Photos thinks there is...
