I have 10.10.3 and 10.10.4 kills my mac pro 2010.

Overtime I update the internet doesn't work and theres constant crashes.

So I revert 10.10.3 via Time Machine.

I tried 10.11 public beta and I just get the international crash screen so I revert to 10.10.3. Any ideas?

I have a feeling if I do a fresh install this problem will go away but I can't I have too much data and customizations on this machine (it dates back to Snow Leopard)

Why don't do a time machine backup and then restore everything after a fresh install, like you did?

Everytime I restore via time machine it says it will delete the drive and write to it again.

if I install 10.10.4 fresh and restore from time machine will that work?

I too have a 2010 Mac Pro that has numerous issues that began with 10.10.3 and continue in 10.10.4.

- Finder locks up and won't respond to a force quit/ relaunch
- lock ups occur about 50% of time when attempting to eject a DVD from either DVD drive.
- after this occurs the system won't shut down properly. It hangs permanently at shutting down screen and must be forcibly powered off.
- system fails to wake up about 30-40% of time. Not due to Bluetooth since I use wired keyboard and RF mouse. Mac Pro must be forcibly shut down.
- Safari fails to respond to a page load about 10-20% of time (page just displays blank with no progress bar). Have hit back and try the link again. Have fiber Internet that is not flaky.

Again all of my known problems started when I updated from 10.9 to 10.10.3. I downloaded Mavericks to revert back, just IRKS me that 10.10 is essentially a beta for 10.11. Apple used to hold themselves to a higher standard. Would be easier to ignore if I didn't know Apple of yesteryear.

So I'm not the only one! I get about 90% of what you mentioned especially finder lockups.

I think they stopped caring for cMP.

I think they've stopped caring about bug free software in general. It's really quite puzzling for a company with seemingly endless resources to not allocate additional staff to resolve these things. I would expect the type of issues happening in 10.10.4 to happen in a beta or early point release, but not in a supposed nearly mature version.

The odd thing is that Mac Pros like ours are really the most agnostic of all Macs. They get the fewest amount of hardware specific updates (learned this from making Hackintoshes). I think issues were experiencing are not unique to cMP.

I've been using Yosemite on my Mac Pro 5,1 since it's release and haven't had any of these issues described. I should also add that I haven't done a clean install since I migrated from PowerPC to Intel That was when the Mac Pro 1,1 was released. Since then, I've just upgraded and upgraded. When I upgraded computers, I just transplanted the drives.

I do have a GTX780 *Mac EFI* and a PCIe SSD, and USB 3.0 PCIe card. Maybe they're the issue, but a .1 update shouldn't cause problems.

10.10.3 is very solid for me.

I have an Inateck USB 3 PCI-e card. I am currently using a GTX 980 (no EFI firmware) but I have also used a GTX 680 (with EFI firmware).

My OS is on the Velo card, that may be the issue...but a .1 shouldn't cause major breakups.

I assume if I do a fresh install on 10.10.4, it will work, I haven't tried it and frankly am waiting for 10.11 final.

I used to have a Crucial M500 (and later an M550) on a Velocity Solo X2 card. I am currently using an Apple blade type PCI-e SSD. None of these ever gave me any problems with OS X.

Not sure, then. It seems like from this thread I attracted another user with the same issue.

Just to sound off, my system is all vanilla with the exception of a Crucial M4 SSD boot drive. 6-core with 12GB Ram in first three Dimms, 5870 card, no other PCI cards, no bluetooth devices...

When I've experienced these issues I do my damnedest to look through Console logs to determine a cause, but nothing stands out.

Update: I went straight to 10.10.5 via 2GB combo update DMG and it went smooth.

Just wanted to let everyone know.
