Is there a way to force 10.12.1 to update? Seems the App Store doesn't know I have it installed because I got it from the dev.

Yes. There are 2 ways to force the update.

First download the update packages for Sierra 10.12.1

10.12.1 update: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...z6wt97sc8zi3z55d7cinlnte3/macOSUpd10.12.1.pkg

10.12.1 patch: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...7sc8zi3z55d7cinlnte3/macOSUpd10.12.1Patch.pkg

10.12.1 firmware update: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...cz6wt97sc8zi3z55d7cinlnte3/FirmwareUpdate.pkg

10.12.1 full bundle update: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...6wt97sc8zi3z55d7cinlnte3/FullBundleUpdate.pkg

And to use the packages, it depends which partition you install from.

Method 1: To install from same partition (which requires that it already be showing up in the mac app store)

1. Start update via mac app store

2. Move packages into /Library/Updates/031-86699

3. Restart.

4. Go to updates tab in mac app store and click update

Method 2: To install from different partition with El Capitan (which does not require that it be showing up in the mac app store)

Just run the packages individually, carefully selecting the Sierra partition on which to install.

(El Capitan is still available in mac app store at https://itunes.apple.com/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1147835434?mt=12 )

^^^^Has been for 4 days now. However, there is no standalone updater at Apple?

Indeed, the full app of 10.12.1 was made available only after or around the new macbook pro event streaming.

Also the 10.12.1 standalone updater: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1897?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Thanks for that link, I was waiting to use it for the main machines. I see the full installer is now a new version number, vs. the update that was released in the App Store on Monday. Monday I got 16A2555. The full version is 16A2657.

The update .dmg file from the support site is also 16A2657.

You sure? I got 16B2555.

You are correct. Both Monday's and Thursday's updates were 16Bxxxx. Monday was 2555 and Thursday saw a bump to 2657 (both the full installer and the update .dmg file update to 16B2657 now). If you installed Monday's, you can apply the .dmg update file to it and it will bring it to the new level.
