After updating to 10.12.3 my 15" tMBP is no longer asking me for my fingerprint to unlock when I wake the laptop.

Previously there would be the words Unlock with TouchID -----> and that arrow pointing to the fingerprint sensor when I would wake the laptop and you could not use a password to unlock it. Now I can click on my portrait and enter the password.

Is anyone else experiencing any change like this?

Check to see if the update erased your fingerprints in setting-->preferences-->touchid. I had this happen between updating through the betas.

I had to do another clean install for an other issue, however touchbar still not showing unlock with Touch ID after sleep. Now I hear 10.12.4 is in beta with new features. Apple please fix what you got that's not working before you add to the problem.

Same here. Initially I was stressed out, but no biggie now that I know it.

Quality Assurance? Not so much....

So I hadn't noticed that people responded to this. It felt like only me and one other person on /r/apple were experiencing this.

For the both of us, this ended up resolving itself the next day. His started acting up again later, but mine has continued to work like normal after that first night. The sensor always worked and unlocked the device, but the message directing me to it wasn't there. But, without any intervention on my part, it's working exactly as it did before.

And, of course, after posting that update that it was working again, it's back to not displaying. Sensor still works fine, just not seeing the message again. I wonder if it has to do with battery level since it shows up fine when > 90%, but both times it hasn't shown for me I've been below 90.

This time when I opened the laptop unlock with Touch ID was not showing. A few seconds past and I received a notification on the lock screen. That triggered unlock with Touch ID to appear. Hope they fix this software bug in the next update.

It is not super impressive that they apparently haven't tested 10.12.3 throughly on the new MBP's with Touch Bar. You would think that this bug is fairly in-your-face if somebody at Apple actually tried to use it on a MBP 2016. o_O:eek::rolleyes:

Working fine again now with the computer at 100% this morning. I submitted my feedback to Apple. It's working fine so I guess it's more of an annoyance to know it's bugged out. But otherwise not affecting much.

This continues to be intermittent for me. Doesn't seem to be battery related. As I posted previously not a big deal. Hopefully it will be fixed sometime in the future!

I submitted feedback to Apple. They contacted me for system diagnostics logs which I submitted to the tech. Hope it helps.

I had the same issue: the "Unlock with TouchID --->" was not showing up even if I was able to unlock by touching the sensor.

I resolved by setting Require Password to "Immediately":
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Require Password IMMEDIATELY
