[10.15.7] Is it stable enough?

I'm still on Mojave, but, since Big Sur isn't appealing right now, I was wondering if updating to Catalina is safe, now that is at his EOL cycle of updates/bug fixes, or is still worth stay on Mojave?

The machine is a MacBook Pro 2015 13" with 16GB of ram.

Catalina has been “safe” and stable for many months. It’s a no brained update from Mojave unless you’re dependent upon any old 32 bit apps. You can check this website for compatibility, if you need help.

if it's not appealing, then i would stay on Mojave like what im doing. Why risk breaking something when everything works to your needs? Mojave is supported by security for another year so there's no reason to downgrade upgrade to Cat/BS - security wise.

Ive tried cat at various points and even on a clean install, it gets glitchy and chews way more CPU cycles compared to Mojave.

I am thinking of updating to Catalina from Mojave but worried about the lack of stability. How would I even find the Catalina update? I remember when I updated my 2010 to High Sierra I could download it from the mac app store even though it's basically vintage software.

Catalina is reasonable at its current state IMO. It still has numerous bugs, but most are more on the quirky side than they are causing massive interference with workflow. Most of the wifi issues have been resolved for most users. There are still some UI and Messages glitches which can occur, and seem to be more likely to occur when using multiple user accounts.

I have a MBP mid 2012 with 16 GB RAM and an SSD
I'm still running 10.12.6 Sierra
Should I upgrade? I'm thinking to go for 10.15.7 cataliena
Any thoughts/tips/advise ?

I own the same MacBook as you do and moved back to Catalina. Big Sur was a real mess. I always had temperatures between 60-70 degrees Celsius, even when the display was turned off.

Now with Catalina, I’m always between 20 and 40 degrees which is more than acceptable.

The reason why I downgraded was that I wasn’t willing to risk to destroy my laptop with these high temperatures, even though not doing anything task demanding. I was working with Preview, Pages, Safari and Word.

So, from my experience, upgrading to Catalina is more than safe. Even though I don’t know what workflow you’re relying on with Mojave.

I held off until several months back to go from Mojave to Catalina. Once I installed Catalina, I wondered to myself what was all the hub bub about it being unstable and a train wreck. I found it to be a very good OS. 10.15.7 is equally rock solid. Well of course when you wait 10 months after the release of an OS, you get the benefit of all the bugs and issues being patched and corrected. Fast forward to several days ago when I made the stupid decision to upgrade to Big Sur. I quickly jumped back to Catalina. So my initial gut to delay an upgrade from Mojave to Catalina was correct. In the future will do the same...yes...I'm looking at you Big Sur.
