Hi, I'm assuming that this is an easy question for some of you. The m1 Pro 10/16 had 8 performance cores and 2 efficiency. The m2 pro base is also 10/16 but has 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. Which one has the performance advantage for general use?
Hi, I have myself spent quite some time comparing all these specs for the same config as you are asking for. Have to say I decided to get the basic M2 Pro in the MBP 14.
But from what I have seen written in a very small font at the bottom of the page on Apple’s website, they have tried to dramatically optimise all these benchmarking and testing conditions to achieve these abstract 20%… Everywhere it said, that M1 were tested in final devices sold on the market whereas M2 were tested in (!) prototypes! God knows what exactly this could mean.
I don’t expect the performance of M2 Pro to drop but could well imagine that inspite of all Apple optimisations between generations there will be barely any improvement really noticeable between M1 Pro and M2 Pro. For me however the battery life was also really critical. Therefore I’m taking the whole marketing games quite chill and am happy to get the newest and hopefully more stable version.
