Last nigh my iPhone 5 updated on its own and now I cannot send or receive calls. The phone is also not recognized in iTunes. If I can gt it to back up I will do a total reset. Phone worked fine prior to the update was pushed. Can anyone shed some light?
Things I've done try and fix this:
Reset cellular data
Accepted a carrier update (Verizon)
Had Verizon install a new sim card
Thanks, Keith

Have you tried resetting network settings in general? What about all settings?

Was automatic backup enabled (perhaps things were recently backed up to iCloud)?

What version was on before the update?

No service. I have an appointment with Apple tomorrow. I'll report back with the outcome.

Hmmm, better to reset it now and restore it from a backup <prior> to the update I would have thought...

May as well big reset then (Power and home held for like 20secs), then see what you have, should be a fresh start ready for iTunes and a restore...

Went to Apple Store today and the tech dicked around with it and now it's completely dead. About 1 year ago I replaced my charging port. Repair done by me, no issues. I was up front about this and was told that I may have set in motion this phones demise and the phone couldn't deal with the update. Been through several updates since the repair and no issues until now. I know in my head and heart that this update crippled the phone and that while the tech was working on it it died a quick death at his hands. This phone has been a workhorse and am pleased with its lifetime performance. Just not thrilled with "it's dead, I can set you up with a new one".

Ugh but I'm guessing the charging port wasn't an Apple genuine part??? (only reason is I thought Apple only supplied parts to authorised repairers)

Sounds so awful. Even I get so puzzled. Nothing you could do? Maybe a newer iphone up for purchase

I'm not giving up just yet. If I can connect to iTunes I'll be all set. This is not the end of the world for me! There's bigger fish to fry.
@chilman: I am due an upgrade and the se is what I would buy.
@simonsi: I'm sure the charging port wasn't an authorized part.
