I was over at my girlfriend's house tooling around with her new macbook and I installed the latest batch of patches including 10.4.10 and the security stuff.

She called me up last night, irate that her computer was taking significantly longer to boot.

Apparently, it stalls out at the white display with the gray Apple logo with the little progress animation below.

I'm pretty sure she wont have sex with me again until I resolve this issue.

This will not stand.

Please, in the name of all that is holy, HELP ME!!!

I'll reinstall the fscking OS if I have to!!

Does this happen every time she reboots? I got a fairly long delay after I first installed 10.4.10 (although this was on a G4 Cube), but it's been fine since then.It seemed like a one-time thing.

Well man I have a brand new macbook and I dont to install the 10.4.10 patch for preventing any type of issue with my new mac

ahahahah! hey cool down! there is a very easy remedy to this problem
upon start up, hold these keys -> CMD+ALT+P+R, only let go until u hear the chim 3 times, it will reset the PRAM, i used to have the same problem too. This should work. 101% ;)

Yep, i had the same problem with my two week old blackbook after i upgraded to 10.4.10. Zapping the PRAM using CMD+alt+p+r fixed it for me :).... and a couple of days later my hard drive crashed (totally different story, wait for my thread for this :()

Thanks a ton guys! One way or another, WE WILL HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED ASAP.

If it's still acting up the next time I talk to her, I'll zap the PRAM.

cheers guys.

i also was suffering long boot times with my new blackbook after 2months or so.

ran the maintenance tasks in Onyx which significantly sped things up post-login screen

did the pram reset to speed up the initial apple logo.

all good, sub 1 min startups :)

I had this issue too, i downloaded Cocktail, ran it and now my boot times are around 17 seconds!
