I posted this in the 10.4.3 thread; however, I didn't get much of a response. So here we go again...

I ran Software Update and I needed to update both iTunes and OS X. So I ran the update. The update crashed towards the end (after iTunes was finished but not sure about 10.4.3). After rebooting (and I know that it's bad to reboot during an installation but I had no other choice), I ran SU and it would "Quit Unexpectedly." I tried downloading both the single and combo packs of the updates from apple.com, but now Installer will "Quit Unexpectedly." I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?

Sidenote: I checked about this mac and it said version 10.4.3. Also, spotlight will not work. Please, help!

Thanks

Try running the combo update from Apple's site before resorting to a fresh install.

I have had something like this happen to me before. What I would do is this:

Make a backup of your stuff if possible
Get out your 10.4 install disk
Use the disk to perform an Archive Install, making sure to preserve account settings
Use Software Update to bring the whole system back up again

Hmmmm. Looks like I'm going to have to reinstall 10.4. Anyone know why this would happen? I'm not too bad with computers, but this just doesn't make any sense. Thanks for the advice though. Hopefully, I'll be running cleanly again soon.

did you quit the install early.... because this update sometimes takes a really REALLY long time. and even though it is near the end it will take a while. it looks like it is frozen. the bar looks like it is moving but it stays in place. then after about 30 minutes it will be done.. if you forced quit it.. you may get corruption..

This is what I was thinking too...

My impatience may have gotten the best of me. If it is corrupted, is there anything I can do?
