Just FYI, seems like 10.5.3 may have introduced some problems with how the system handles photos.
Some users of the image-browser PhotoMechanic have reported a significant slowdown when browsing folders of images particularly when viewed direct from the camera card. See this thread here:

More worryingly German server software company Helios has reported it has been able to reproduce an error whereby Images saved from Photoshop CS3 can get corrupted visually (stripes or similar in the image) or even structurally so that they cannot be opened again in Photoshop or another application when using AFP based servers. I've no idea on either, but anyone who hasn't upgraded yet may want to hold off, at least until the situation is more clear.
