10.5.4 update

it looks like that my fan is more "active". It'll spin up but also just as quickly die by back to 2500 rpm. I'll have to watch this a little more to see if I'm actually imaging it or not.
i upgraded 5 computers at work today, some pros, an air, and regular macbooks. I haven't noticed anything different.
I feel like safari is running a little faster.

Oddly enough I haven't seen any core shutdowns after the 10.5.4 upgrade.
I watched some embeded flash video and the core was showing nearly maxed CPU on both cores (via iState menus). Fan went up to 6200, but no core shut down.
Will have to investigate further, I had been making plans to take it into the local store after the 4th.

Apple could put out an update that did absolutely nothing and some of you people would still claim that your fans and cores are operating different after the update. 
Plug in an external monitor. I have a real hard time to cause a core to shutdown without using an external monitor.
okay, after having both cpus locked at 100%, running vmware fusion, watching 2 youtube videos and doing "yes", the cores have NOT shut down at all. I am connected dual screen on a 1680x1050 @ 20" monitor also. 10.5.4 have fixed the core shutdown, at least for me. It appears it is an software/driver bug.
Open up terminal, type in "yes" hit enter. I used two tabs running this, it puts load on the processor. Furthermore, I had several other intensive programs running such as watching flash material on safari 4 and vmware fusion.

SO true. However, you also forgot that every update issued also makes Safari snappier, too. The best are the ones that "observer" their fans spinning faster after the update.
I guess macs must fit perfectly in the hands of simpletons...
I'll ignore the trolls, considering my observations were just that, observations.
After some more "stress" testing I can reproduce the core shut downs, but it requires longer video sessions. iChat video conferencing will still cause a core shut down.
However, previously when there was a core shut down, everything hung for a second. Now, things continue to move, but video may become out of sync with audio.
In any event, I'm still up for a trip to the Apple store to get a paper trail going. I'll probably opt to replace the thermal paste since I see a significant difference between CPU and heatsink temps and it is a simple enough change for the potential benefit.
