On latest iOS as of today, the battery is draining somehow on my 10.5".

Sometimes don't use for days and yesterday it was flat, not ideal for the battery either.

None of my other iPad's, or iOS devices for that matter, have ever done this, as in seem to drain.

In general use also I just don't find the battery as good, nothing scientific, just from using iPad's etc for a long time.

It's still in normal Apple warranty until Oct, but Apple will run their test Andy it'll be ok. I've ran a few app store battery tests and all say ok as well.

Is it just a dud? I could flatten it and start again, in settings>battery it didn't really help, would be nice if Apple expanded on this to help show a bit more to help customers to see.

Thanks

I have an ongoing issue with my iPad Pro 10.5” that may relate to your problem.

It kinda locks up all the time when it’s in my bag. Have to do a hard reset each time.
Did a search and saw that, there were many people with the same issue on the official Apple forum.

And whenever it does lock up, upon reset, my battery usually goes down to like 50% from its initial 100%.
As iOS does not show the battery usage upon a reset (needs to be charged to full first), I can’t check if there is a lock up due to a specific app and how long was my iPad in that locked up state.

I also have an issue with touchscreen sometimes being unresponsive and have to lock/unlock screen to regain control.

I suspect the above two issues is related to software as I didn’t have these issues for a long time when I first purchased it. It seemed to have started after iOS 11.3.

Is yours in warranty? Have you had it checked if so?

I hope it is software and Apple aware of so. I just find, not that it locks up, but can return to it and the battery is down a lot.

I may hard reset with no apps or anything on and what happens as that is always what Apple asks you to do

You definitely need more testing done before you talk to Apple, especially if you suspect a software issue that they may yet need to discover themselves.

iOS doesn’t have hard resets and Apple doesn’t use the term, so be aware when you discuss your previous troubleshooting steps with a genius. You are referring to a restore to factory condition.

It’s not software. It’s hardware. I’ve faced some of these issues with my previous 10.5s.

All 10.5 face these issues sooner or later. I’ve tried 4 different ones.

Can you expand please? What has Apple said? Have you returned every one to get a new replacement?

What did you do to prove? Just so I can maybe do the same as mines in warranty still.

Thanks

I had two.

Both had touchscreen problems and battery issues.

Both got replaced for battery issues.

Replacements were fine initially. Now these two seem to be developing similar issues too.

No way to replace now because Apple sucks in India. First two were replaced on my visit to London.

Did they run their battery test and see was poor? They turned me away on different iPad's, even though in use was no good, as their battery test said was fine.

They ran the battery test.

Both were around 90% but with just 130 cycles or so.

They extrapolated that this was far below the rated 80% at 1000 cycles based on the trend of degradation.

So they obliged.

Ah ok from my experience, and what I've heard, they just say "it's not below 80% so is fine"

Maybe worth a visit soon then, although I think they can also run the test remotely as well so no need to visit, least to get the results.

I must be extremely fortunate, I have four 10.5IPP since initial release with no issues.

One of the 10.5 on iOS12 beta 5 did drain the battery faster than the others, but the latest beta seems to have fixed that.

Then I must be rather unlucky .:)

But these issues can go unnoticed unless you're very observant and/or using the devices a lot .

Haven't used iPad for days, left in standby, in house, WiFi and Bluetooth on as normal.

Checked this morning and is at 60% from fully charged with the below. Is this what could be classed as ok?

You could have an active app running in the background perhaps? Or it could be a legitimate hardware issue.

I've had my 10.5 since last year and battery life has been phenomenal (likewise for most other users) so it's not a design issue.

Do not know. I'm running iOS12 and it shows a lot more information. The good news is that in a couple of weeks you will be able to see exactly what is causing your issue. Or you could download the public beta now.

The battery setting is pretty pointless at moment. What does it show on iOS 12 on iPad please? Can you post some screenshots?

I could I suppose get public beta, never does this, as it's not as important on my iPad I suppose than my iPhone... Not sure how to, I'd have to read up. Should be pretty solid as a beta now being so far on as well?

Pretty much everything you need to determine which app is doing what.

Unfortunately no. I'm bound by Apple Multi Platform Developer non disclosure agreements and I do not wish to risk that. A little googling may provide some insight.
