Is a 64GB 2017 10.5” Pro refurbed from Apple a good deal at $379? Also, is it worth getting AppleCare at $129 if it will mostly stay in house or should I just get a good case?

Thanks

The question I'd ask is if you compare it to the 2019 refurb iPad Air for $419, what is it that's influencing your decision most?

Depends if you care about ProMotion, quad speakers, and a flash for the camera. The A10X is still a well supported chip for iOS 13 and will continue to see updates for years to come. It has 4GB of RAM while the Air has 3.

I currently have an Air 3 and just purchased a 10.5 Pro refurb from Apple to replace it.

The 10.5 Pro is just a better overall experience. What did it for me was the speakers on the Air 3 are just awful compared to the 10.5 Pro. The 120hz display, extra gig of RAM, and rear camera with flash didn’t help its case either.

The 10.5 Air is one of my favorite form factors - the super thin side bezels really make it a great device in the hand - and ProMotion is something that I can’t go back from, it is incredible. If you aren’t interested in the FaceID iPads I’d really recommend this model over the Air or 10.2.

Thanks for the replies. It will be for the wife who mainly does browsing, some media consumption, reading, apps etc.

She is far from the user that the Pro was designed for, however at $379 refurbed from Apple I thought this deal was too good to pass up especially considering it’s only $50 more than an iPad 7th gen and cheaper than a new Air.

I will get myself either a 2018 or 2020 12.9 Pro soon. I was going to get her a either a refurbed Air at $419 or a look for a 2018 11” Pro around $600 but I think I made the right decision by going with the 10.5 Pro.

Im all for finding good deals and not paying full price. I actually ordered a nice case from Targus on clearance for $14 regularly $50.

It's a good deal. I got the same Refurbished iPP 10.5" in rose gold for my girlfriend to replace her iPad mini 4 that I had gotten her.
Sure the iPad Air 3 is newer with a new chipset that is on par with the 10.5 Pro, but the 10.5 Pro has better features such as ProMotion, Stereo Sound in both orientations, 1GB more RAM and 120Hz display makes everything smooth. From watching videos to playing occasional games or even light photo and video editing.

Glad you made the right choice. :)
