I got my 10.5” Pro refurb from Apple in November. Have been using it extensively without any issues, however seem to have noticed an issue with the touchscreen in the ~last week.

Once in a while it feels like it becomes unresponsive, sometimes the touch doesn’t respond until the third or fourth touch. At first I noticed it in a certain app, thought it was at fault, but then I started noticing it all around.

Is this a known issue or is it possible it has something to do with the latest 12.1.4 update, as it would coincide with the timeframe I have been noticing it.

Same issue here with a 12.9" - I don't think it is related to the latest update - there are plenty of other posts about this on MR and other forums.

It seems it only affects the pro models - I have an iPad air that does not have the issue.

I even get a certain keys on the keyboard that become unresponsive - I thought it might be a dirty screen - but cleaning the screen does not seem to improve it - it's like certain areas of the screen become in active for 5 to 10 seconds - very frustrating if replying to a text.

I get this too occasionally (but not very often). A reboot usually solves it for me.

FYI - I have a tempered glass screen protector on mine.

Has anyone confirmed this glitch is only in the pro models? I would switch to the iPad-not-pro if it doesn't have this problem.

Some non-pro do demonstrate the issue as well. To find exact models that most have it look up the threads above.

Me too!
I thought it was just me, it is incredibly annoying..
Mine was a refurb after I had a white spot problem and the iPad completely died on me.

I’ll have to dig through the other threads..hopefully it is a software issue and not a screen defect.
I have the 10.5” pro..and it has really put me off using my iPad.
For a pro model you would expect better quality control..

I got two 10.5 iPPs that were unresponsive right out of the box (the second one was so bad the fully charged pencil would stop working while in Procreate too).

The two 2018 iPads I have are fine.

When I saw this post in latest posts I thought it was talking about a MBP or cMP running 10.5 Leopard... But anyway, I had a similar problem with my iPad 2, turns out dust was on the actual screen and interfering with it, that was the only thing I could find that could cause it. Is yours bent at all? Perhaps bending may make it harder to press even if it's on;y bent a bit. (Just my guess, I'm not the most up to date with iPad issues)

My 2018 12.9" pro is perfectly straight an does it.

Thanks for all the info guys. I’ve been monitoring it more closely these last days, and it does seem to be an issue due to the heat (whether it has anything to do with the latest update I guess we’ll see once the next one comes). It mostly stutters when I either have it charging or am running some more intensive apps for a while. When I did both it got noticeably bad.

Reboot seems to do nothing for me at all. I was considering a fresh reinstall, but now that I see its a common issue I’m not sure that will help anything.

Unfortunately not an option for me due to the Pro keyboard.

Happens to me too. My old iPad Pro got real bad. At first unplugging it solved it. Eventually it got bad enough that I gave up.

Generally, when it only happens when plugged in, its a grounding issue. You may have a bum charger, a bad charging cable, or a slightly flaky outlet situation.

I’ve tried to get 9to5mac to write an article about this without any success. It’s horrible because the Apple Geniuses don’t believe you. I even showed them a video I recorded in anticipation of her reaction and she said that it must have been the way I was pressing the screen (as if it’s rocket science to work out how to use touch). Even though I had Apple Care she was not keen on letting me replace it till she was scrolling through it and what do you know? It happened to her and instead of apologising to me, she was annoyed that she looked like a fool. So I told her that instead of being an arrogant POS, she should be more empathetic when people have spent more on the new iPad Pro than the MacBook Air and expect it to work normally with under a month of use.

I also emailed Dan Riccio and he never got back to me, which is to be expected although both Phil and Tim have both gotten back to my emails.
