I swear this worked 2 weeks ago from my old place in the states, of course now in london it doesn't work.

Setup is a MacBook running 10.6.8 server in my dad's basement. It has a static IP 192.168.1.40. That IP is in the DMZ of an actiontec router connected to 20/20 FIOS service.

I have PPTP enabled (40bit and 128 bit) and using MS-CHAPv2 for authentication.

Here are the logs from the server.

2012-02-29 10:28:32 EST --> Client with address = 192.168.10.100 has hungup

Possible issues. I am trying to connect via tethering to my mobile phone. I am pretty sure i did this 2 weeks ago and it worked fine. But that was on t-mobile and now i am on Three.

That is my thoughts as well. Cause this all worked 3 weeks ago on our house hunting trip when we were on hotel wifi. Really the only thing to change was my (client side) connection method.

final update. I think it turns out that the andoirce wifi tethering was the problem and not the mobile network Three. I switched to an iPhone 3GS and tethered via USB and the VPN works just swimmingly. (Also worked fine at StarBucks).

So yeah..go figure.

Ok this is odd. VPN stopped working. Back to the same errors. Tethered via USB to iPhone 3GS on Three mobile.

Back playing with things and decided to give L2TP a go. And it worked! Soooo strange. From what i recall L2TP is a better encryption protocol.
