Does it matter in the end? What do you recommend?

Obviously, the install and update is very fast and easy, but is it the right way to do it from the latest snow leopard? Or do you recommend doing the longer method of wiping the drive, install the os clean and transfer data over afterwards using migration assistant?

I'd do a manual backup of my important data, wipe the drive clean and install mountain lion, then reinstall the apps, the restore my data manually...

No install and update, no migration assistant... This will ensure the OS starts from clean slate... But that's just me.

PS: The above method works best if you're on regular housekeeping of your drive. If your data is scattered everywhere, good luck then...

I've tried both methods, install/update and the long process, erase the HD and full clean install. So far both methods worked fine for me. No kernel panics or beach balls or freezing. I get feedbacks that an erase and full install works better.
