Our IT guy just mentioned something about 10.7.2 including and active directory scheme so that Mac server can act as a windows domain controller again. Could anyone verify this?

10.7.2 fixes some major bugs with binding to AD but it does not allow any sort of domain control.

10.7.2 didn't fix AD binding for us. Still can't join AD. Tried all posted suggestions. "Allow Network Users login" option appears for a moment in SystemPref then disappears.

How do you guys solved this problem ?

Binding to AD

We have found the issue to be mostly related to .local domains. In Snow Leopard Apple seemed to have addressed this issue. However, Lion appears to back to pre 10.6 when OSX didn't like .local.

We moved to a new domain to avoid future problems binding our Apple devices to AD.

I'm not sure but prior to 10.7.2 I couldn't get OS X server to bind to AD and drop its kerberos realm nor could I get my workstations to work properly with AD.

After 10.7.2 I had the golden/magic triangle setup in about an hour.
