Hi there,

I'm running OS X 10.8.2 and I've noticed that ever since I updated to 10.8 Spotlight has been indexing my hard drive multiple times a week. Is there a reason for this? If so, what is it and if not, how can I turn this off?

Thanks for any help you can offer,

Tyler

Indexing allows Spotlight and Finder to locate files when you search for them. After a complete initial indexing (which can take several hours), maintaining and updating that index should be very quick and pretty much unnoticeable.

Try re-indexing your drive and make sure it finishes:
If that fails to index, enter the following command in Terminal:
sudo mdutil -i on "/Volumes/your drive name"

Just started the process. Thanks for the help and quick reply!
