Hello,

After "updating" to 10.8.4 this morning my computer has been acting quite strange. I'm getting the beach ball of death every couple of minutes and both Chrome and Safari are acting completely funky as neither of them can run more than one tab without my machine freezing. Am I the only one? Is anyone else having some issues after the "update?"

It's an extremely stable update. What I'd recommend you do is restart the computer in the Recovery Partition, run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions (do this at least 2x) and the run Repair Disk.

If these don't fix your issue you may have a corrupt download or install, in which case you will need to reinstall.

Huh, seems to be fine now. Very odd, a couple hours later and everything is working. I know it wasn't Spotlight indexing because I checked, I guess my computer has a mood swing. :D

After each update of OSX: CLEAN-UP with ONYX!

I always update my OSX with the combo's! http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659

And, after each mayor update of my MP OSX and/or applications I do a clean-up with ONYX! Give that a try...

Have a good :apple: TweakEnd! :D

GL & Cheers!

I did the combo for 10.8.4 and it ****ed up my login. Basically couldn't login and fixed it with safe mode.

How stable is Onyx? Someone on Macupdate seems to think it's ****.

something is up, wish i could help.

i've been running onyx once a month since...forever, without any problems.

10.8.4 combo update on a MacPro3,1.

Prior to updating I cleaned my system using System Tool Pro; ejected and then disconnected USB devices and let the update run without anything else running.

After the reboot things seem to be clean and so far have experienced no issues though it has only been a few minutes. :)

Wow. That sounds like Windows precautions we'd have to take five and ten years ago.

Darn. This is Apple. I didn't think we were supposed to worry about having to do stuff like that!

My problem is that I cannot get System Update to give me 10.8.4. After several tries and restarts I am still on 10.8.3. It just won't work.

Downloading the Combo Updater right now...but I gotta say I'm having second thoughts about even WANTING to update after reading this and some other threads.

freezing

I have the last iMac with the DVD drive..... Since 10.8.4 I get random freezes... when I come look at the screen, it looks like it went into some multi-color screen saver and is frozen... this didnt happen on 10.8.3

I initially did an upgrade of SL to ML, and it brought along with it all the problems I had in the SL install. Then I did a clean wipe, and clean install of ML, and my Mac now flies. Instructions for clean install in this video - http://youtu.be/lCnkAJUL8eA

Although I admit this is anecdotal, what appeared to get the update to finally work was removing a USB drive.

The USB drive was a 32 GB SD card adapter, and it seemed to cause the update process to hiccup.

That's the only thing I changed, and the update worked after the drive's removal.

chrome too? hmmm...I thought I narrowed it down to Safari, but now????

my issues are that sometimes there's a lag when clicking on something. And also video sometimes will stutter. I also updated to the latest flash, so it's possible it's a flash issue??

...oh, and safari has been crashing

----------

There is no point in doing this more than once, and even then hangs are generally not due in any way to file permissions.

However, repairing permissions has helped with lags for me, sometimes. ...I tried repairing permissions once and restarting several times, even ran disk warrior, to no avail.

if need be, you can run the combo installer for 10.8.4.
sounds like something happened in the download/install.

if u need it:

10.8.4combo

I used to only do full-combo updates, this time the smaller update, and now I'm having issues...I think I will try the combo install tonight and get back to ya tomorrow, let you know if it fixes it for me, maybe it'll fix it for OP also.

Same here. Safari acting weird with random freezes and also, yesterday, Facebook and Twitter integration stopped working system-wide.

I'm now reinstalling 10.8.3 and then will combo update to .4.

So far, doing the full combo update seems to have fixed all issues.:D I recommend doing this! :apple:

I don't see why you need to do all that. I had updated to 10.8.4 with the smaller update, then had the issues. Yesterday I just downloaded the full 10.8.4 combo update (from link above, which is from apple's website), (which was over 800mb), ran this update, problems are fixed! No need to go back to 10.8.3, the combo update fully updates the system folder. Doing 10.8.3 first is overkill.

Reading through the thread it seems like more than enough people have had to use the Combo Update over the incremental update.

My methodology is based on reading other people's issues with updates and working to avoid the issues. About the only thing I really needed to do was remove all un-necessary USB devices.

Since updating I've had no issues and my sandbox problems seem to be greatly reduced.

Wow. That sounds like Windows precautions we'd have to take five and ten years ago.
