Has anyone else noticed problems with Samba via SMBUp after the 10.8.5 update? XBMC on two different AppleTV units both now give a lot of "Operation Timed Out" and "Could not connect to remote share" errors since the update here. Trying to load the directory again gets the correct result, but this error seems to come up often now. I used to only get that error when my external media drive was asleep. Now I get it for no apparent reason since 10.8.5 was installed. I also seem to get more "buffering" glitches than before like the information isn't being sent in a timely manner to the unit.
I've just re-installed SMBUp and I'll continue to monitor whether anything improved or not, but I'm under the impression 10.8.5 screwed something up (10.8.2 - 10.8.4 still behaved fine with it).
I have no idea whether the SMB2 support in Mavericks will work with XBMC or not. Somehow, I doubt it. It's a shame networking seems to be getting worse over time. Progress should not mean BREAKING everything that came before, but that seems par for the course anymore. They remove legacy support that works and the replacement doesn't work right.... (sigh). Otherwise, I wouldn't need SMBUp in the first place.
Edit:
So far, it looks like re-installing SMBUp has gotten rid of the lag, but it's pretty early to be sure.
