My girlfiend bought me this phone for my 30th birthday so it's really important that I get it working. I've spent about 40 hours of my time trying to hack it without success. I've been treated like imbecile on forums because people seem to think I can't follow simple tutorials, but I have run into a brick wall with every method I've tried.

Every time someone sends me instructions I hit a dead end, then they tell me, "ok try this" then that doesn't work. "ok do this" that doesn't work and so and so and so and I just go round and round in circles.

It's a week 43 AT&T from the states that I want to use with my Irish O2 SIM.

Two methods I have tried....

1) Restored to 1.1.3 and used ziphone 2.4 but then can't install the BSD subystem. Usually the status bar stays blank and nothing happens. Once it got three quarters the way across then fell over with error. Sometimes I can install community sources, sometimes I can't. I can't reinstall the installer and I cannot refresh sources. There is nothing wrong with wi-fi.

2) Shift restored to 1.1.1. For some reason I always have to do this twice because ibrickr returns a green screen the first time. Tried to install appsnap. First time this wouldn't work I reconnected to iTunes and shut it down then appsnap would install, but now this solution won't work for some reason, and anyway when it did appear to install none of the applications appeared in installer.

If anyone could help me on MSN or Skype please PM me. This is causing me an immense amount of stress and any help will be sincerely appreciated.

One question-

Are you setting up the phone as a new iPhone in iTunes or restoring from a backup?

I hold down both power and home buttonx, release power button after 10 seconds. Screens stays blank, itunes recognises phone. I select restore. It asks am I sure I want to restore phone to it's factory settings. I select restore and update.

If your phone is not stuck in recovery mode, try this:

-Plug in the phone and bring up iTunes. Skip the button holding altogether.
-Click on the iPhone in your Devices list, and on the Summary screen, click restore.
-It should restore, and towards the end will ask if you'd like to restore from a backup. Choose "Set up as new iPhone" and continue.

Does this work?

Did this and owards the end It didn't ask me if If like to restore from back-up and returned error (1602)

Ok, first, you need to completely restore your phone. Put it into recovery mode, and then restore it to factory settings. Then run iJailbreak...

When you say run jailbreak I'm assuming you mean run ziphone 2.4 using only the -j switch?

this is no problem, but once I do I can't install anything.
