1080p content on ATV3 to 720p TV...

Can an Apple TV3 connected to a 720p TV playback a downloaded 1080p iTunes movie?* I'm hoping atv3 can just downscale content to 720p so I do not need to have both the 720p and 1080p copy.

I would be fairly confident it will be able to do that. We won't know for sure until someone tries it though.

The ATV3 can almost certainly do that. However, 720p TVs can usually convert 1080p signals to 720p anyway, so it likely doesn't matter.
