I don't know much about about technology but why doesn't a 1536x2048 (ipad air 1) can't show videos in 1080p? Totally considering getting a 9.7 pro with black bezels (the white distracts me when I watch movies). I know that the 9.7 pro have the same screen resolution so its okay to assume that it also can't show videos in 1080p?

I might be buying a 2nd hand 9.7 pro. Any tips and how would I know if it still has a good battery (battery cycles)? Thanks guys in advance.

Where did you get this information about movies from? It sounds wrong. The dimensions of full hd are lower than the iPad's maximum resolution. Check Apple's specifications if you want to know the supported formats.

Ohhh Im sorry. When I try to download videos in youtube using the official youtube app it only says 720p so that's why I assumed it can't show 1080p.
iPad Air 1 can play 1080P video as soon as the video is not using some pretty tough encoders.
But official Youtube app? I bet Google will allow downloading 1080P on android device and only allow 720P on iOS even if the original video has 1080P version.
