my PC motherboard took a dump on me, so I was deciding originally between an iMac and a MacBook. I am actually going to update my TV as well, so I thought moving to a MacMini would be better right now as it would by my home theatre computer down the road once I purchased another mac.

All the hoopla surrounding the Sept. 9th event has me waiting, but I wanted to know if the 1.83 or 2.0 MacMini has the grunt to play 1080p movies ripped to the local drive, or via streaming wirelessly? It states it supports up to 1980x1200 DVI output with the internal GMA950.

I would wait if the mini is going to be updated to the new Intel GMA X4500HD gpu...which states can handle blue ray and full 1080p.

Sort of confusing in my opinion?

Thanks

Don't hold your breath. I could see the laptop getting a 4500 and the mini a 3100. I suppose you can buy 4500 boards now, but it's hard to find a desktop from Dell or HP or wherever with a 4500 in it yet.

Of course, in my wet dreams I'm still hoping for a mid-range graphics card in the mini update. Unfortunately, I need a new semi-low-end computer like yesterday, but can't bring myself to pay for old technology. I may end up buying whoever gets a 4500 to market first, and if that's not Apple and I have to put linux on it, then that'll have to do.
