10G network speed issue

I want to use one of my cMP 5,1 as a Server in the studio and set it up with NVME drives and a Sonnet Solo 10G PCIe card.
I would like to connect several cMPs and nMPs via Sonnet Solo TB2 boxes or PCIe cards.
I use a Netgear XS508M. Right now speeds don't go above 450MB/s. The limit can't be the drive inside the server,
internal r/w speeds are above 2000 MB/s.
Server and clients are running macOS 10.13.6.

I tested AFP and SMB and with the latter it's even worse. Is there a way to speed things up? Or is it the Sonnet cards?

Good question. I doubt you will find too many folks here with lots of 10G experience to help troubleshoot and optimize...but let's see what others have to say. Don't forget that there is always overhead in TCP/IP transfer. The big question is how much is normal? Check the math on a 1Gig connection.

Possible Factors:

• Network performance (including switch, cable length and quality, etc.)
• OS and drivers, etc.
• File sizes
• Protocol (some of which can be tweaked and optimized)
• ...And there could be other network tuning, including packet sizes, etc.

You might also consider testing with a network diagnostic tool to check max throughput with a few variables.

Helios Lan Test is a nice app that does automated repetitive tests.

Will try to see how the connection is between two cMP with PCIe Sonnet cards. I have the feeling the TB box is the culprit.
Also is SMB package signing in 10.13.6 still a problem? I read it's disabled since 10.13.4.

Try CIFS instead of smb! That’s the more modern string!
