I'm curious as to what reliable 10G networking switches Mac users are using.

I need to interface a 2012 cMP to two separate 10G NAS's, one with SFP+ and the other with 10GBase-T. The NAS's are located in a equipment closet that is separate from my whole house network switch location, so I would need a 10GBase-T switch at the network hub and a mixed SFP+ and 10GBase-T switch with the NAS's.

I will probably get the Sonnet Solo 10G Presto for the cMP.

FleaBay is flooded with older used Cisco et al routers in various 10GBaseT and SFP+ configurations on the order of 24 or 48 ports for a couple hundred dollars. As I only need 8 ports at the networking hub and 3 ports at the NAS, these seem to be overkill, but 10-port mixed 1G/10G switches start around $300, such as the Netgear MS510TX (2 10G ports), to the $600 QNAP QSW-1208-8C-US 12-port 10G SFP+ of which 8 of those are shared with 10GBase-T ports.

Do the cheaper switches have a non-blocking backplane? Ie, can they support multiple simultaneous 10Gb/s transfers?
And if not, how much does it matter?

Non-blocking: Cisco WS-C4948E-S Catalyst 48-Port Gigabit 4x SFP+ 10GB Switch, Cisco Catalyst 4948E and 4948E-F Ethernet Switches Data Sheet

Heck, I'd get a pair of these Cisco's for my needs, but they're just too big and wouldn't fit inside the structured media in-wall cabinet which is the whole house networking hub. Hence, why I'm looking at QNAP which is only 11" x 9" x 1.7".

Looking at the data sheet, it looks as if the downlink ports are only 1 gigabit.

I'm looking for the same thing. So far have found:

https://www.buffalotech.com/products/multi-gigabit-business-switch

which is ~$550.

https://selector.netgear.com/productsearch/FormProductSelector.aspx

(select 10 Gigabit first)

Cheapest seemed to be ~$660.

The cheapest Cisco switch I found was ~1K:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/produ...stackable-managed-switches/compare-model.html

and then there is the Qnap QNAP QSW-1208-8C-US

it is on sale at B&H tomorrow at $429, $160 off!

Remember seeing a post about some good websites for network issues, but can't find it ...

As far as I could research, the "uplink" ports would simply act like any other "downlink" port if connected to any client device, according to user responses to this question on other forums; I couldn't find any definitive answer directly from manufacturers' websites and documentation. i should probably email their support to settle this question once and for all...

10-Gig switches, with all ports 10-Gig, seem to be still a bit rare, and expensive, at least in the 8-10 port size one would use for a home network. I ordered the 10-Gig port on my new Mini, but so far it is the only port in my extensive home network that is 10-Gig. I will upgrade the network as availability of switches increases and prices come down.
