As the title says, I recently picked up a 10th-generation base iPad, after owning an original iPad, two iPad Airs and, most recently, an 11-inch iPad Pro (M1). I just found that I don’t need the M1 horsepower in a tablet and prefer to do heavy lifting with a desktop.

The feature that attracted me to the more-basic iPad is the location of the front camera to the middle of the device when holding it in landscape orientation. With all of my other iPads, my right hand was always blocking the camera. Apple even thoughtfully had me register my fingerprint so the command button would work with both my right and left hands.

Which brings me to my complaint. I prefer to use my right hand with the command button. But, when holding the iPad in that way, the camera is at the bottom of the device. So, when doing FaceTime calls, I look kind of strange and am always looking down. If I turn the iPad “upside down” it solves the FaceTime problem and I look much better.

So, what is my problem? Well, have to use my left hand when I’m right-handed and if I try to just use the iPad like that most of the time, the case folds at the bottom, which is all wrong. If I swap the position of the case, the holes for ports, speakers and the button are all off. So I end up taking the case off.

I just think Apple didn’t think this one through. Moving the camera was a great idea. But most people (and statistics back this up) are rigt-handed. I hope they make some changes with iPads in the pipeline.

What the heck is a "command" button on iPad?

I just asked myself the same question.

Besides, put the iPad on a stand and don’t hold it, no camera covered. Wanna hold it? Use the hand opposite of the camera or rotate the device. Or return within the return period and get something else if that’s more comfortable.

I suspect it’s just you.

The power/Home button with Touch ID is adjacent to/around the corner from the volume buttons.

Thankfully Apple placed the front facing camera on the same edge as the volume buttons so that they are easily accessible when used with a keyboard case and when the iPad is held in the most sensible orientation with the camera in the upward position.

I am also right handed; I would never contemplate using the iPad upside down and backwards as you are doing.
