Did a Search - couldn't find anything here:

Installed 11.0.1 Gold last night (after the initial download debacle had been more or less resolved) - did a FaceTime with a friend this morning and I could not hear them. At all.
Later checked out Music - could not hear anything.
Went to TV (and VLC Player) and audio could be heard without issue.
Went back to Music, and sound could be heard.

No tweaks to my original Sound Settings (from Catalina and prior) during any of this.

Half an hour later, I went back to Music and same issue. No Sound. Ran TV and VLC (with sound) and then back to Music - Music could be heard. Haven't tried FaceTime call again...

Thoughts? Gonna explore other forums and see if this is 'a thing' for others, or whether I'll just need to let Apple know. Add it to the list.

Is your volume up and mac's built in speakers selected in input and output in the sound pane. Facetime settings should be set on system speakers. Just checking.

It baffled Apple Support, too - especially after I had already tried the 'use another app and see what happens' shtick. New OS, new issues. Resulted in a case #, if nothing else.

Experimented with a few things, but eventually we settled on a PRAM / NVRAM reset (Opt+Cmd+P+R) - and that seemed to resolve it. I have sound back in all apps and I did a FaceTime with original friend, and we could hear (and see) each other.

Just waiting around to see if it 'sticks'. Hopefully, yes.

How's it doing?
Knock on wood, okay so far. But I haven't had another opportunity to try FaceTime again.

In truth, that's the only Mac app I would have concern over. I really don't use the Music / TV apps all that much (preferring VLC, which worked fine), and I'm perfectly good if I never hear Siri. 😏

We'll just see if it holds...thanks for asking.

When you open up FaceTime, make under at the top, video pulldown, the "system settings" for microphone and speakers are ticked.

Thanks. System settings in FT were checked when I talked with Apple Support. But wouldn't have made a difference when Music chose not to work, then work - but only after I had tried other audio apps. My next adventure in audio will be a Zoom meeting later today - see if I can hear that. Fingers crossed.
