I’m on Mojave ATM. I tried Big sur 11.2, 11.3, and 11.4. They were all laggy on my MBP 2015. The animations were choppy and nowhere near as smooth as Mojave. I did clean installs everytime.

I really want to update to the latest OS, but not if it makes my Mac slower.

Anyone with 2015 MBPs on 11.5?

I am on 11.5.1 in a Macbook Pro Retina 15" Mid 2015 and UI LAG is finally gone. In previous releases, there was some random UI LAG every now and then. I will not update further. I believe you never know when Apple is going to Slow down things again.

Thats great to hear! Thanks. Maybe I’ll try an update now.

I thought they had given up on Intel machines, because the earlier versions were so laggy

Hello,

Mid 2015 Macbook Pro Retina 15" and 11.5.1 is the stablest I've seen so far. But you. need a clean install.

Upgrade keeps too much old settings and not taking advantage of the new version (half between state).
Some system tools (gatekeeper, SIP, ...) don't like your old customisations because they are blocked now by default ( I want to remove the Control Center and keep my clock) and I want some custom icons, without removing SIP, RMT, ....
Some software don't play well with Big Sur and Intel Macs (Little Snitch and Spotlight are fighting with each other, resulting in 500 % CPU spikes and very slow startup times).

But all the little bug fixes referenced no where, are worth while.

Oh Yes by the way then it is snappy in execution!

I suggest you to stay with Mojave, it is very smooth, that is important.

I'm on 11.5.1 on a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" It's just a full of slowness and jerkiness as ever.

i'm on 11.5.1 on an Early 2015 13" base model, and it's running just fine. a bit stuttery on the graphics side at times but that's expected from a system this low spec.

So I did a clean install of 11.5.1. So far its good. A little slower here and there, but nothing like the earlier versions of Big Sur.
