11.6" Radtech Sleeves

Just got my 11.6" Sleeve from radtech in the mail. I've always ordered their sleeves for my 12" powerbook and 15" macbook pro, and I'm glad I waited for this instead of buying a cheaper netbook/ipad sleeve.

It's very thin so it doesn't add any bulk to the thin macbook air and I much prefer the feel of it to neoprene. I know it won't help much if I drop it, but I've always been careful and it's never been a problem with my other laptops. They've always been shiny new, even after 4-5 years.

I know everyone is still interested in cases and sleeves for the new 11.6" mba, so I've included a few pictures of it.

Would you mind posting a couple pics with the MBA out of the sleeve? I'm trying to understand how thin or thick the sleeve itself is.

I have the RadTech sleeve and screen protector (from possible keyboard rubbing on screen) for my 12" Powerbook from 2004. My Powerbook doesn't have a scratch on it and the screen is flawless. I'm getting a 13" MBA next week and just ordered the screen and full sleeve protectors. I had gray for the Powerbook but looking at their colors, I found the grape/plum appealing so I ordered in that color. Hope it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures which I believe look pretty accurate.

I had a 12" PowerBook, too, and am disappointed that my new MBA has a larger footprint than it did. However, I'm loving the MBA. Thanks for the pics. I'm trying to decide which sleeve to get and don't want anything that adds bulk so this looks promising. I'm also looking at the sfbags suedecloth.

The sfbags sleeve also looks like a good alternative. I have their neoprene laptop sleeve, which I like a lot, but it is not as thin as the suede one.

Thanks for the great pictures, Eclipse278. I also have placed the order for the exact same Radtech sleeve(same color) for my 11" MBA. I should expect to receive it sometimes next week.

I notice you let the top of the laptop go inside first, leaving the black plastic visible from the opening of the sleeve. Could it be done the other way round? I have the habit of grabbing the top of the laptop out as I find it easier.

Yes,but Radtech has a wider color selection. If you put something like Wrapsol, Invisibleshield, Bodyguards, etc on the laptop, the darker color of the sleeve may stain the covered edges of the laptop due to tightness.

(It doesn't apply to MBA as to the edges are too thin to have anyone design a film to cover it but MBP has such covered edges)

In my case, I find the grey Radtech sleeve does not stain the film on my MBPs.

I notice you let the top of the laptop go inside first, leaving the black plastic visible from the opening of the sleeve. Could it be done the other way round? I have the habit of grabbing the top of the laptop out as I find it easier.

I tried that, but the cloth is tapered and seems to be designed to make you put it in that way. You can force it, but it stretches less and looks nicer this way.

It now makes sense from a manufacturer's point of view. It is easier to make it bigger at the opening then at the other end.

I wish it were the other round as you wouldn't need to unnecessarily contact the black plastic air vents.

Thanks for posting this. I am going from an iPad to a MBA 11" and was hoping to find something simple to cover the machine when transporting (just like the iPad case).

This looks pretty good -- I would use it to carry the MBA in my hand under one arm. Is it grippy material, or more slippery? It almost looks like suede, which I would imagine could be slippery. I don't wanna get something that will ADD to my chance of dropping the thing

It's kind of like suede, but maybe more of a fine felt material. They call it optex? I've never heard of that, but I've never really felt like it's any more slippery with the sleeve on. ymmv.

I almost ordered one last week and in the plum color too, but I could not get over how the MBA fits in the sleeve. I would like to use this sleeve inside my shoulder bag and I don't think resting the MBA on the edge nearest the track pad is such a good idea.

Of course the new 13.3 inch MBA's would fit in, but, I wonder if these were made for the previous generation MBA's or not. Specifically, the "Limited Edition" Ultra Violet and Polar White versions?
